Little background on this place:
<<豫园是著名的江南古典园林，全国重点文物保护单位。豫园始建于明嘉靖38年（1559年），万历5年（1577年）又加扩充，规模宏伟，被誉为“东南名园冠”。1987年重建东部，恢复百余年前故景风姿，新旧诸景相映互彰，融为一体，古园更臻完美，实为游乐观瞻之极佳去处。
The word "yu" translates to "peace and health"—and the park was certainly designed with tranquility in mind. In short the name “Yuyuan Garden” indicates people’s wishes for peace. >>

Here we had the infamous 小笼包 from 南翔馒头店 apparently it is regarded as the most authentic and traditional小笼包 shop and has been around for at least 105 years. It is stated that the SH version of the小笼包 were originally from a town called 南翔(suburb if SH) in the 嘉定区. Oh ya… the also have a branch in SG known as Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant - #02-53 Parco Bugis Junction.

Visit them @ 黄浦区豫园路85号(九曲桥旁) in SH.


As to avoid the snaking queue and to spare ourselves of the agony of the heat, we headed to their resturant with 空调 (i.e air conditioned). There are like 3 different tiers, 1) take away @ 8元 2) 2nd level where they only serve one type of小笼包 which is also packed like sardines and sharing of seats are common where 一笼 of 6小笼包 cost 16元 3) 3rd level as most might have already guess, the atas place where they serve a range of different baos (灌湯包, 蟹黄/ 蟹肉/ 鲜肉小笼) ranging from 22-48元.
